Оpening of the exhibition “The Khatyn Tragedy. 80 years of pain, sorrow and memory”

On March 21, 2023, in the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Helsinki was opened an exhibition “The Khatyn Tragedy. 80 years of pain, sorrow and memory”.

The event is dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Khatyn tragedy, the day of the destruction by Nazi invaders the Belarusian village Khatyn together with its inhabitants. The exposition was prepared together with the National Archive of the Republic of Belarus and the State Memorial Complex «Khatyn».

The exhibition includes photographs from different years reflecting the memory of civilians – victims of the Nazi invaders, and unique documentary evidence of crimes committed by the occupiers on the territory of Belarus during the Great Patriotic War.

The ambassadors of Belarus, Russia and Kazakhstan to Finland, representatives of the Russian Center for Science and Culture, compatriots living in Finland took part in the opening of the exhibition.

In his speech, the Ambassador of Belarus to Finland Aleksei Samosev stressed the importance of preserving the memory of the tragic events of the Great Patriotic War and preventing distortion of the historical truth: «The word “Khatyn” sounds like a tocsin in the hearts of every Belarusian, Russian, compatriots. Khatyn is remembered all over the world».

The book “The Genocide of the Belarusian people Information and analytical materials and documents”, prepared by the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Belarus, was presented to the high guests of the event.
