         Minsk, December 6, 2023

I cordially congratulate the people of the Republic of Finland on the national holiday – Independence Day.

Unfortunately, today the unstable and contradictory situation in our common space negatively affects the sustainable development of both countries, the possibility of mutual benefit.

For many decades, the political figures of your country have made a significant contribution to solving very difficult conflicts for peaceful coexistence of peoples. Thus, in Helsinki was signed a historic Final Act of the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe. Belarus has also been contributing for a long period of time to the implementation of the initiative to organize a broad multilateral dialogue on strengthening confidence, security and cooperation measures in the region.

I am sure that the creation of further barriers between Belarusians and Finns is not in the common interest. It is necessary to return to restoring lost and forging new economic and humanitarian ties.

On this festive day, I sincerely wish the citizens of Finland peace, success and prosperity.

Aleksandr Lukashenko

To the people of the Republic of Finland
